Super Bowl 53: Receiving Props to Target

Super Bowl 53: Receiving Props to Target

The Super Bowl is a gold mine for prop bets with everything from length of the National Anthem down to what color gatorade will be poured on the winning coach available for you to bet on. All this week I’m going to break down some of my favorite prop bets that I’m considering and give out some other ones to check out just for fun. Today we are looking at the receiving prop bets that are standing out.

Patriots Receiving Props to Target

James White Most Receiving Yards (+1000)

Kicking off the receiving props I’m going out on a limb with James White to have the most receiving yards in the Super Bowl at +1000. Now obviously guys like Julian Edelman, Brandin Cooks, and Robert Woods have much better odds of having the most yards, but I like the value on the pass catching running back White after Los Angeles allowed Saints RB Alvin Kamara to catch 11 passes for 96 yards in the NFC Championship game.

We know that White is a key piece of the Patriots offense and I fully expect him to see between 8-10 targets in this matchup. White went for over 70 receiving yards in 6 games this season and this prop is worth a punt if you think White can hit his yardage ceiling and the Rams defense focuses their attention on limiting the wide receivers.

James White O5.5 Receptions (-167)

Continuing with the James White receiving props, his receptions prop of only 5.5 is just too low on DraftKings Sportsbook. I’ve seen this number be as high as 7.5 on other books so 5.5 is a steal despite the large -167 juice. White has topped 5 receptions in 8 games this season and I would be shocked if the Patriots don’t game plan to get White heavily involved given how effective the Saints were at getting their running backs easy receptions out of the backfield.

Julian Edelman O80.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

While I do like taking a punt bet on James White to have the most receiving yards in the game with the +1000 odds, if you want to take a safer bet then look to take Julian Edelman to go over his receiving yardage prop of 80.5 yards. Edelman is one of the best playoff receivers in NFL history and has exceeded 80 receiving yards in both of his two career Super Bowl appearances. The Rams have been susceptible to opposing wide outs this season, ranking 25th DvP and Edelman will avoid coverage from the Rams best CB Aqib Talib for the vast majority of his routes.

Rams Receiving Props to Target

Brandin Cooks Longest Reception U25.5 Yards (-115)

Brandin Cooks has been the player most hurt by the loss of slot WR Cooper Kupp and he has failed to get loose for big gains in almost every game in the 2nd half of the season. Cooks has failed to record a reception longer than 25 yards in 5 of the Rams last 7 games of the season and he will draw the lock down coverage of Patriots stud CB Stephon Gilmore on the majority of his routes.

Todd Gurley to have more receiving yards than Chris Hogan (+115)

In the rushing props article, I mentioned how I believe that the Rams will get Todd Gurley more involved in the offense than he had been in the NFC Championship and the fact that his prop to have more receiving yards than Chris Hogan is set at +115 is crazy to me. Both players have a similar median yardage projection, but Hogan has a much lower floor given he failed to top 35 yards in 9 of his 18 games this season and had zero receptions in three games. We know that C.J. Anderson isn’t much of a pass catcher so we can project Gurley to get the majority of work in the Rams passing game.

Tyler Higbee U2.5 Receptions (-177)

Tyler Higbee is a player that the Rams use primarily for blocking but will also run a few designed plays for him to try and get behind the linebackers. I love taking the under on his 2.5 receptions prop even with the massive -177 juice. Higbee failed to have over 2 receptions in 13 of 16 games this season and will have to contend with fellow tight end Gerald Everett for receptions in the Rams offensive.

Josh Reynolds O47.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Josh Reynolds has filled in valiantly for the Rams after they lost Cooper Kupp to a torn ACL midway through the season and he has a great shot at going over his yardage prop of 47.5. Reynolds topped 47 yards in 4 of his 8 games as a starter this season. We know that the volume will be there for Reynolds after he saw 5 or more targets in 6 of his 8 starts and it’s just a question on if he can convert them given he posted over 13.75 yards per reception in each of the Rams last 5 games.
