NBA DFS Core Plays: February 1, 2019

NBA DFS Core Plays: February 1, 2019

Tonight’s NBA slate is a small one with only 5-games to choose from.

We’ve got MEM @ CHA, BOS @ NY, OKC @ MIA, ATL @ UTA and HOU @ DEN to round it all off.

The most value is going to be coming out of NY today because of the trade with Dallas. Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke, Courtney Lee and Kristaps Porzingis are all moving to Dallas. While the Knicks in return are getting DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr. and two future first-round picks.

I love seeing trades like this because it means teams are still open to completely revamping their rosters. The Knicks get to dump Porzingis before he left in the offseason and were able to get plenty of value in return including draft picks. The Mavericks were able to land Porzingis to team up with Luka Doncic which could be one of the nastiest European duos we have ever seen in this league. So in my eyes both sides won.

But I am not here to talk about trades. I am here to talk about tonight’s DFS slate.

So, without further ado let us get into today’s NBA DFS Core Plays.

Point Guard

Top-Tier: Trae Young (PG, ATL) – Did you know this kid is only 20 years old? And he is averaging 42.16 fantasy points over his last three games which means he is feeling it right now. Young has scored 79 points over his last 3 games after a 5-point clunker vs CHI. But there’s more, Young is averaging 8.2 assists over his last 5 games as well. So 21 PPG, 8.2 APG and 3.2 RPG over his last 5 games shows you why he is my top-tier guy tonight. The matchup vs UTA isn’t beautiful but I’ll take it with Trae Young at $7,000 on DraftKings and $7,300 on FanDuel.

Value: Allonzo Trier (PG/SG, NY) – Coach Fizdale will finally be forced to give Trier big minutes tonight. And this is because there is literally only one other healthy PG on the roster which is Kadeem Allen. I am picking Trier over Allen because of the potential he brings to the table. Look at this stat: When Allonzo Trier gets > 30 minutes he averages 35.125 fantasy points. Compare that to his average points for this current season and it only stands at 18.2 fantasy points. That’s almost double the production when he gets 30+ minutes which is why I am playing him tonight.

Shooting Guard

Top-Tier: James Harden (PG/SG, HOU) – The shooting guard position is very scarce tonight so James Harden is the obvious play for me. Harden gets a matchup with Denver who he has faced twice already this year. In those two games Harden is averaging 59 fantasy points per game which is good for around a 4-5x value if he performs at that same level. Good news is that he is at a new level and even with CP3 back I expect Harden to keep up his same usage rates. Oh and CP3 is questionable tonight so check up on his status before tip-off. If Paul is out then expect even more usage for the Bearded One.

Value: Malik Beasley (PG/SG, DEN) – Beasley is still coming off the bench for the Nuggets but hey 30 minutes off the bench is not bad at all. Beasley has been a man on a mission ever since that 0-point game at Utah. And his averages speak for themselves with 26.1875 fantasy points over his last 4 games. Then add in his price is only $4,400 on DraftKings and $4,500 on FanDuel and we have ourselves a 6x value guy easily.

Small Forward

Top-Tier: Justise Winslow (PG/SF, MIA) – I don’t want to pay up for Paul George, so I think Winslow is the next best bet. He’s been given 35+ minutes in each of his last 3 games which could have something to do with Derrick Jones Jr.’s injury. And 33.83 fantasy points over his last 3 games shows that the extra minutes are really helping him in DFS. Love Winslow’s game because he is a 5-category player who will get you points, boards, assists, steals and blocks and he can play PG on DraftKings.

Value: Mario Hezonja (SF/PF, NY) – Another value guy out of New York and he had been getting a lot of minutes even before the trade with Dallas. Now with Burke and Hardaway Jr. gone Mario will likely get even more minutes tonight. Now Luke Kornet could be returning but I don’t think that would cut into Hezonja’s minutes at all. Mario has averaged 22.25 fantasy points over his last 3 games which is not very impressive until you see his price. At only $4,200 on DraftKings and $4,400 on FanDuel I can see him being a 6x value guy easily.

Power Forward

Top-Tier: Kenneth Faried (PF/C, HOU) – I mean come on how can you not love this story? From the Nets Bench to the Rockets Starting Five. And now Kenneth is starting to heat up and show us all why his nickname is “The Manimal.” Let’s start off with the 3-consecutive double-double’s and the 13 combined blocks & steals from his last 4 games. I mean dang, he literally hopped right into this lineup and immediately made a huge impact. Since being inserted into the starting lineup Faried is averaging 38.4375 fantasy points per game.

Value: Paul Millsap (PF/C, DEN) – Millsap has been playing terrible as of late but the one sign of hope I am hanging onto is his last game. Yes he failed to top the 30-fantasy point mark, but he did play 34 minutes which is a lot higher than he normally plays. Could this be due to the injuries the Nuggets are facing? I don’t think so, but either way it is a good sign for an aging body like Millsap. A matchup vs HOU who is without any solid big man besides Kenneth Faried means smooth sailing for Millsap. Oh yea and Paul is the cheapest he has been all year, so snag that undervalued beast and win big.

Center

Top-Tier: Marc Gasol (C, MEM) – This man is trying to play himself into a trade and honestly I hope it happens. Gasol is an all-time talent and has been wasting it on the Grizzlies for too long. But forget about all that, the reason I picked Gasol is because of his history vs CHA which happened about a week ago. Gasol had a triple-double vs CHA with 22 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals. WOW. I am literally just expecting a repeat of what happened last week because nothing has changed in Charlotte. Their down low still sucks, and Marc Gasol is going to abuse it tonight.

Value: Ivan Rabb (PF/C, MEM) – Going full on Grizzlies at the Center position. I look and see a lot of potential injuries from the Memphis side which could open up more time for Rabb. Rabb is a young, raw talent who has been given few opportunities to succeed this year. With the Grizzlies now tanking and potentially selling a lot of their team away means Rabb is primed for a role in this offense. He put up a double-double in only 25 minutes of playing time last game out vs MIN. Rabb averages 27.625 fantasy points when he plays over 20 minutes which is just wow. Love the matchup tonight and no one will be playing him.
