NBA Core Plays: December 5, 2018

Tonight’s NBA slate is one of the best we’ve seen this season with 10-games that offer plenty of options. The biggest value of the night is also the highest total game of the slate as the Wizards take on the Hawks in a game that has a total of 231. Washington will be with starting PG John Wall, which opens up plenty of minutes and usage in the Wizards backcourt, while Atlanta will be with SF Taurean Prince. This isn’t the only spot that should attract attention with 6 other games also having totals of 220 or higher.

Point Guard

While there’s plenty of value at point guard tonight, Sixers PG Ben Simmons is a great spend at the position in a matchup with the Raptors. Simmons’ production hasn’t at all been negatively affected by the arrival on Jimmy Butler, and Simmons has exceeded salary expectations in 5 of the last 8 games. His price on DraftKings is also awfully enticing at $8,500, which is the lowest it’s been since opening night; far too cheap for a player who has averaged 43 fantasy points per game in matchups that feature a total of 225 points or higher this season.

There are a ton of great value option at PG and Cavs guard Alec Burks is standing out as a strong cash game option. Burks has seen plenty of minutes off the bench for Cleveland since coming over via trade from the Jazz. Burks has play 24 or more minutes in all three of his games this Cleveland, and has exceeded value in all there of those games.  The Cavs come in as huge 11.5-point home underdogs and Burks is a strong candidate to see extended minutes if this game gets out of hand in the fourth quarter.

Shooting Guard

Shooting guard is another loaded position tonight and Malcolm Brogdon makes for an excellent mid-range option for cash games. Brogdon has been extremely consistent for the Bucks this season, posting a +/- of +3.1 with a consistency rating of 73%. Brogdon has been on a recent hot streak where he has met or exceeded value in 8 straight games and tonight draws a tasty matchup with the Pistons in a game that has a total of 226 points.

The Wizards back court is going to provide us with the most value tonight with starting OG John Wall ruled out. Tomas Satoransky is a strong candidate to pick up a nice minutes and usage bump with Wall off the court. Satoranksky has played well for Washington when he is asked to step up, having averaged over 22 fantasy points per game in games which he plays over 20 minutes since the start of last season.

Small Forward

There are plenty of great options if you want to spend up on a star tonight and it’s hard to overlook just how good Giannis has been lately. Not only has he has met or exceeded value in 7 straight games but has also flashed huge upside recently, posting 3 games with 73 or more fantasy points in that time frame. Giannis has also been excellent in games which the Bucks are favorites, posting a +/- of +3.0 this season.

The Wizards-Hawks matchup is going to be a key game on tonight’s slate and Hawks SF DeAndre’ Bembry is an interesting punt option at SF with starter Taurean Prince ruled out. Bembry is projected to play 26 minutes tonight, which is good news for his fantasy prospects as he’s posted a +/- of +5.4 in the 15 games this season in which he’s played 20 or more minutes. The Wizards-Hawks matchup has the highest total on the slate at 231 points.

Power Forward

There are so many great option on this slate that a player such as Anthony Davis may actually go slightly overlooked. Davis has been the most consistent player in the league this season, posting a +/- of +6.8 with a consistency rating of 81%. AD has been even more dominant when playing at home this season, posting a +/- of 8.9, which is good for an average of over 62 fantasy points per game. Davis should have no problem smashing yet again tonight against the Mavs in a game that has a total of 227 points.

Another Wizard player who should see a nice bump in usage with John Wall off the court is Otto Porter Jr., who finally looks to be picking up his game after struggling for much of the first few months of the season. Porter has exceeded value in 6 of the last 7 games and should thrive in a matchup against the Hawks who play at the fastest pace in the league.

Center

Marc Gasol continues to be underpriced and tonight is another spot to look to him in a matchup against the Clippers. Gasol has been an absolute usage machine for the Grizzlies this season and leads the team with an insane 40.7% usage rate over the teams last five games. Gasol was also dominate against the Clippers last season, posting a +/- of 9.1 over his last 4 games against them.

John Collins has looked great since returning from injury for the Atlanta Hawks and is a great mid-range value option at center tonight. The Wizards have been horrible defensively with C Dwight Howard out of the lineup and that could lead to a big night from Collins who leads the Hawks in usage rate over the last 5 games at 29.7%.
