English Premier League – Match Day 22

Wolverhampton vs Arsenal

Wolverhampton Wanderers are coming off a 1-0 away loss at Crystal Palace and that defeat further extended their woes, as they’ve now gone winless in their last five Premier League contests (D2, L3) while taking just one point of their last 12 available — they’re a far cry from the side that battled for a Europa League spot last season. Arsenal got off to a slow start this season but have been trending upwards of late, going W3, D2 over their last five matches and coming off a scoreless draw against Manchester United the last time out. The Gunners have the edge in terms of form and Arsenal are considered favorites (+129), but Wolverhampton are playing at home and still have a decent shot of taking home the three points (+244). Given how well matched up these two teams are, it would be surprising if that game ends in a draw (+239). For what is worth, that’s a four-star bet in our BetQL model.

Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace

Newcastle United snapped their losing streak with a comfortable 2-0 win over at Everton the last time out, and that should provide a huge confidence boost for a Magpies squad that was in the midst of a woeful form run. Crystal Palace are also coming off a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton the last time out, and these two sides are quite close to each other in the standings — they’re separated by just two spots and four points. Palace have the edge in recent form, though, going W2, D1, L2 while Newcastle have posted a W1, L4 five-game record. Newcastle (+192) have the edge of playing at home in this one, though, and while they begin this game as underdogs due to their woeful form of late, they should have enough in them to secure a win over Palace (+165). The draw (+231) can’t be entirely ruled out due to the fact both sides tend to struggle offensively as well.

Sheffield United vs West Bromwich Albion

Sheffield United have been trending in the right direction of late — they’ve won two of their last four league matches (W2, L2), which is already an achievement for them, and they only conceded one goal against Manchester City the last time out. Now the Blades are headed back home for this match, but they’ve posted a woeful W1, D1, L8 mark at Bramall Lane this season. Fortunately for them, they’ll take on a West Bromwich squad that’s also complicated with relegation and that is riding a three-game winless run following their 2-2 draw at home against Fulham the last time out. West Brom have also gone W1, D3, L6 on the road during the current season. Sheffield might have the edge of playing at home, but that might not be enough to find a winner here. Expect this one to settle in a draw (+249).
