English Premier League – Match Day 18

Sheffield United vs Newcastle United

Sheffield United enter this game on the heels of a 2-0 away loss against Crystal Palace in their most recent EPL match — that means they have extended their losing run to three contests while also remaining winless through the first 17 games of the campaign, racking up just two points (D2, L15) in that span. Newcastle United are also coming off a loss — a 2-1 defeat at home against Leicester — and they’re also riding a woeful streak when it comes to their form since they’ve gone winless in their last five league contests, racking up just two points in that stretch (D2, L3) and averaging 2.0 goals conceded during that five-game stretch. Sheffield United (+154) have the edge of playing at home, but their results have been woeful across the season and are yet to record a win. Newcastle United (+216) have taken just two points of their last 15 available and, while they’re the better side, their recent form can’t be taken for granted. With that in mind, this game could easily end with a draw (+220) in a result that wouldn’t break any tendencies — both Sheffield and Newcastle would extend their winless runs in that scenario.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Everton

Wolverhampton Wanderers are coming off a 3-3 away draw at Brighton the last time out and, while it was a strong offensive showing, it also means Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have gone four straight games without a win in the Premier League (D2, L2). Meanwhile, Everton are coming off a 1-0 home loss against West Ham United but that result can’t overlook what they’d done before — they were riding a five-game undefeated streak in the EPL prior to that loss (W4, D1). Everton (+219) might be playing on the road here, but they have been trending in the right direction and will face a Wolverhampton (+150) side that will not only be missing their top forward, but that has also been struggling more than expected throughout the first few months of the season. Despite being on the road, The Toffees should walk away with the three points in this one.

Burnley vs Manchester United

Burnley are undoubtedly going through their best run of form this season (W3, D1, L1) and they enter this game following a 1-0 home win over Sheffield United the last time out, a result that now has them five points and two places above the relegation zone. Manchester United are also going through an excellent run of form since they’ve gone W4, D1 in their last five league matches and are coming off a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa. To make things even better for them, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have posted a W6, D1 record in seven away matches while averaging 3.0 goals scored per away fixture. Burnley (+649) are massive underdogs here and, while their recent form of three wins and just one loss over their last five games looks promising, that might not be enough for them to put up a decent fight here. Manchester United (-214) have looked at their best when playing away from home and shouldn’t have major issues to walk away with three more points that would move them to the top of the standings.
