English Premier League – Match Day 14

Brighton vs Sheffield United

Brighton are coming off a scoreless draw at Fulham the last time out and, while it’s hard to gauge just how much progress they’ve accomplished over the last few weeks, the inconsistencies remain a factor with them — they’re on the midst of a four-game winless run (D2, L2) but have also taken points in three of their last five league contests (W1, D2, L2). As for Sheffield, they remain one of the weakest sides in the league and they’re coming off yet another loss, this time at home against Manchester United — they have earned just one point of 39 available (D1, L12) and have scored just seven goals. Brighton (-140) might look like the odds-on favorite here and for good reason, as they’re playing at home and have been experiencing a turnaround over their last few weeks — they’ve taken points in three of their last five league matches. The fact that Sheffield (+461) remain winless this season should conspire against the visitors, but The Blades are coming off a strong performance against Manchester United and could be on the rise. Expect this game to end with a draw (+281).

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur are coming off a loss the last time out following their 2-1 defeat against the current league champions, Liverpool, but they remain one of the teams to beat in the league and have been nothing short of outstanding at home — they’re on a three-game winning run at home and have lost just once all season long (W3, D2, L1). As for Leicester City, they are coming off a 2-0 home defeat against Everton and this means they’ve dropped three of their last five league matches (W2, L3). However, they’ve oddly been at their best when playing on the road where they’ve gone W5, L1 so far. Tottenham Hotspur (+112) are the favorites here since they’re at home and have been one of the best teams in the Premier League this season, but they have a tough matchup here and are also looking to bounce back from an ugly loss against Liverpool the last time out. Leicester (+276) have enough weapons to pull the upset, but it’s hard to imagine the Spurs losing two games in a row — something that has rarely happened to Jose Mourinho as a manager. Expect this one to finish with a draw (+250).

West Bromwich vs Aston Villa

West Bromwich have won just once this season and have been struggling overall, as they enter this contest on a three-game winless run (D1, L2) and have also conceded 26 goals already, so it’s clear their struggles are present on both sides of the ball. Aston Villa are on the opposite end of the spectrum, though, since they’re in 11th place of the standings and have earned points in three of their last five contests (W2, D1, L2) — they have looked comfortable as a mid-table squad, which is already a marked improvement compared to what they did last season. West Bromwich (+279) have been struggling massively this season and currently rank as the worst defense in the league. They are playing at home here, but that might not matter much. Aston Villa (+101) are not the dangerous team that were earlier this year and might not repeat displays such as the 7-2 win over Liverpool, but they’re expected to have the edge here and shouldn’t have major issues to get the three points.
